Ralph David Abernathy, Sr., was a Civil Rights activist and Baptist minister. His attributes towards Civil Rights includes collaborating with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and E.D. Nixon to create the Montgomery Improvement Association. Minister Abernathy also co-created the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. As a member of SCLC he served as an executive board member and as president. He also led the Poor People’s Campaign. During his active years as an activist, he participated in other marches and demonstrations in support of equal rights. He was also involved with the Congress on Racial Equality (CORE) serving as an advisory committee member. Ralph David Abernathy, Sr., was also a member of the Montgomery NAACP.
