Lucius Christopher Bates 
Lucius Christopher Bates was a Civil Rights activist and the husband of activist Daisy Bates. He and wife Daisy Bates founded the Arkansas State Press. Lucius was an active member in the NAACP. In 1941 the Bates bought the Twin City Press, which they renamed the Arkansas Start Press, which they used to advocate for Civil Rights and covered black involvement in sports, social events, politics and entertainment. For eighteen years the newspaper was an influence in the Civil Rights Movement n Arkansas.
