E.V. Hill (Reverend)
Reverend E.V. Hill was a Civil Rights activist and the pastor of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. As a Civil Rights leader Reverend Hill worked with Dr. Martin Luther King. He was a confident, power within one of the nation’s largest African American denominations. Under Hill’s leadership, his congregation became a center of political and social activism in Los Angeles. He fought for government programs to bring housing and economic development to his community. Pastor Hill aligned himself with politicians aimed at helping the poor, the needy. He also worked with other Pastors who shared the same goals. He was among the first African-American preachers to broadcast on the Trinity Broadcasting Network and enjoyed considerable influence among the Baptist movement. Reverend E.V. Hill proudly served as leader of the California State Baptist Convention from 1972. He was the associate professor of evangelism for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and was also a leading figure in the National Baptist Convention.
