Dr. Arenia Conelia Mallory gained a national reputation as founder and as the founder and president of Saints Industrial and Literary School, which she tirelessly worked on and developed for over 50 years. Mallory was president of the school from 1926 to 1977. The school was well known and seated on 350 acres of land. The school was affiliated with the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, a denomination which Mallory had been active in since about age 17. Under Mallory's direction, the school was renamed as Saints Academy. Arenia became a national leader in the Church of God In Christ's Women's Department, starting in the 1940s. She helped to create a more vast civic engagement of church women who worked for a "sanctified world." Through the National Council of Negro Women, of which Mallory was a charter member beginning in 1935 and vice-president for many years, she worked to better educational opportunities and to obtain Civil Rights for African Americans.
